Lori Tilkin deFelice

Executive Director

Lori graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a Master’s Degree in Chinese language and literature.  Prior to that she studied at Beijing Foreign Language Teacher’s College in Beijing as well as Taiwan Normal College in Taipei where she participated in advanced language studies with an emphasis in theater and dance.  In Taiwan, Lori studied with Chen Wei Chung, a former principal dancer with Cloud Gate Dance Theater, in his newly created Grotowski-based theater company while also studying modern dance and Peking Opera movement.  This culminated in her bachelor’s thesis – both written and performed – for the Chinese Department and the Dance Department at Wash U entitled: Chinese Modern Dance or Modern Chinese dance?

Lori later performed the dance portion of her thesis entitled DOG KING at Rutgers University, throughout Los Angeles, the New York Fringe Festival and the Guangdong Modern Dance Festival.  She later restaged the piece on a group of dancers for ZiRu Dance in San Francisco.  While living in Beijing, she worked for CCTV writing and hosting a language study program while also studying Chinese minority dance styles at Minzu University. In 1995 she began working for legendary Hong Kong director John Woo first as an assistant on many productions, as well as teaching English to Chow Yun-fat and Jet Li and assisting Michelle Yeoh with publicity needs during her US productions. In her tenure at Lion Rock Productions (FACE/OFF, MISSION:IMPOSSIBLE II, RED CLIFF) Lori also co-founded their transmedia sister company, Tiger Hill Entertainment, to produce video game, comic book and animation properties.

Lori continues to serve as Executive Producer or Producer on numerous film and television properties while running the L.A. operations as Head of Production for Woo's new company, A Better Tomorrow Films.  This seemed to be the rare job to mix her passion for dance and choreography with her love for theater in finding a film director who is known for his ‘bloody ballets’!  Lori continues to study dance whenever and wherever she can.
